2.

why The Columbus Calligrapher?

There are a lot of options for where to order your wedding stationery, but The Columbus Calligrapher is a little different. Rather than just design stationery, or just provide calligraphy services, you get the best of both worlds. This allows you to have a smooth and stress free experience beginning to end, from designing invitations to creating reception place cards; allowing you a little more time to enjoy engagement.

3.

why shop with a small business?

In a word, it's personal. By working with a small business, not only do you have a personal connection with someone from beginning to end, you also have someone to help you through the maze of options and components of wedding stationery.

the process

1. Coffee date

Let's get to know each other! One of my favorite parts of working in the wedding industry is getting to know the brides and grooms I work with. Each couple is completely unique and different, and learning about you and your relationship makes designing your invitations even more fun. Before starting the design process, I love getting to meet with my couples in person to learn more about them and the vision they have for their wedding.
During this design consultation, we'll discuss some of the basics, like when and where your wedding is, as well as reviewing some basic invitation packages to help narrow down which pieces you need and how to work within your budget. During the meeting, we'll also talk about the fun stuff. How did you meet? When did you get engaged? How did they ask? Do you have a dress? Tell me everything. I want to know what makes you unique as a couple and as individuals. I love learning what my couples are most excited about for their wedding, whether that's a romantic and intimate venue, or a huge after party they've planned. Learning these details about you help me to get an idea of what will best represent your wedding to your guests.

2. retainer and design concepts

After we meet, I'll get to work! Based on our consultation, your description of your wedding, your Pinterest boards and inspiration images, I'll put together an estimate of the cost of your invitation suite. Once that's ready, I'll send you a link to my secure online client portal, where you can see all of our emails in one place. I'll also send you a contract to review ad sign, and a link to pay a non-refundable retainer in order to reserve your spot in my calendar.
After that, I'll put together a design concept that I think you'll love based on our consultation. This is where you can also add all the extra details you'd like. Hand dyed silk ribbon, custom wax seals, venue sketches and maps, envelope liners, handmade paper, extra enclosure cards, I could go on. Pretty much anything you can think of! You can choose what extras to add, and we'll start working out the details, making changes and perfecting the details of the design.

I'll deliver one hard copy proof, fully assembled just as your guests will receive them. *Just as a note, for some printing processes, like letterpress and foil printing, a hard copy proof may not be available.* After this, you can tweak the wording or change the information to make sure everything is correct. After you've approved all the details of your invitation design, and paid the balance of your invoice, they go into production! From here, it will usually be around 6-8 weeks to receive your finished invitations, but could be longer or shorter depending on the type and quantity of invitation suites you order. Around this time, you should be getting ready to send me your guest list for addressing envelopes!

3. Proofs

This is where it gets really fun! Once your invitations are printed, I'll add the mailing address to each outer envelope in hand-written calligraphy that coordinates to your invitation suite. Then, I'll put all the pieces together, add rsvp postage, wax seals, belly bands or ribbons, and seal them up for you. What you receive is a box of fully assembled and ready to mail invitations. Then, we get to start on the next fun project: wedding day papers!

4. Addressing and assembly

Let's get to know each other! One of my favorite parts of working in the wedding industry is getting to know the couples I work with. Before we start on your invitation suite, we'll get coffee and I can learn about your vision for your wedding and what makes you unique as a couple.

After we meet, I'll get to work! Based on what we discussed during our meeting, I'll put together a rough estimate of the cost of your invitation suite. Once that's ready, I'll send you a link to my secure client portal, where you can see all of our emails and forms in one place. Once you sign a contract and pay a retainer, I'll put together a design concept that I think you'll love. From there we can add other finishing touches and extras before finalizing the design

I'll deliver one hard copy proof, assembled just as your guests will receive them! (Just a note, for some printing processes, this might not be possible) After this, you'll check to make sure all the spelling and wording is correct before your invitations are printed. Once you've approved the design, it will take between 6 and 8 weeks to complete your invites!

This is the fun part! Once your invitations are printed, I'll get to work on addressing the envelopes and assembling your invitation suites. When it's done, you'll receive a box of fully assembled, ready to mail invitations.
